The Obituary
"To everything there is a season, and a time…" Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
A Time to be Born… Sarah Virginia Garris was born November 1, 1940, in Morven, NC to Jammie and Jennie Garris.
A Time to Build Up… She was educated in the Anson County school system. Sarah received her spiritual nurture through her membership at Parkwood Institutional Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a dynamic woman of God who prayed faithfully and diligently daily.
She met and married Paul Pegues and they were blessed with five wonderful children. Her role as a prayer warrior evolved even the more after she became a widow at the young age of twenty-four. Nevertheless, she put her faith and trust in God to direct her path. She was a true testament of the favor of God on her life.
A Time to Laugh… " Sarah", was lovingly known as Mom, Mother, Sadie P, Sarah Lee, Mrs. Pegues, Monk, and Grandma. She answered to each name with a smile. While she was not able to walk in the latter years, we had many laughs with the wheelchair she mastered. We (her children and grandchildren) tried to emulate her wheelchair driving skills, but had many altercations with doors, door frames and walls. We never understood why things as such, got in our way and not hers. Her smiling face and gift of wisdom encouraged her children, family, friends and strangers to seek God in all that we do; to never give-up; to always pray and never forget that God can fight every battle you have and WIN!
She created a home where everyone was welcome and was the gathering place for all our family celebrations. Let it be known that she had a great sense of humor and was very witty. Sarah was love and light to everyone she met, as well as Phenomenal Woman and change agent in the earth.
A Time to Mourn… Sarah leaves to cherish her memory five devoted and loving children, Vanessa Black (Albert), Sharon Gabriel (Vernon), Paul Pegues, Eric Pegues and Rena Robinson; granddaughter who she thought of as her sixth child, LaQuandra Bass (Jason); sisters, Effie Minger, Rodessa Washington (Charlie); brother, Bennie Little; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; god-daughters, Juanita Johnson (Frank), Cassandra Phillips and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends.
