Mrs. Stella J. Jones, 85, of Charlotte NC departed this life on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Atrium Main.

Stella J. Jones was born January 24, 1938 in Hartsville, SC, to the late Robert and Addie Jett.  She was the eldest of five siblings.

Stella was a graduate of Butler High School, Hartsville, SC, Class of 1955.  After graduating high school, she attended Good Samaritan Hospital, School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC and graduated in 1958.

She completed her staff nursing at L. Richardson Memorial and Good Samaritan Hospital between 1958-1964.  Her career started and ended at Carolinas Medical Center (formerly known as Charlotte Memorial Hospital) from 1964-1997.  She held the positions of Pediatric Nurse, Staff Nurse and Head Nurse.

Her community involvement included being a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church (Nursing Ministry), Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, Good Samaritan Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. Iota Chapter.

Stella married the "love of her life," Johnnie E. Jones, on May 27, 1960 and to their union came two daughters, Johnita Renee and Karen Denise Jones.  Johnnie and Stella celebrated 50 years of marriage together in May, 2009.   They were an inseparable couple; they traveled together, they loved the casino's, attending social events and lovin' on the family every occasion.

Stella departed from this earth on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Atrium Health to eternal rest and peace.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnnie E. Jones; granddaughter, Kayla Scales; brother-in-law, William Toney; brother, Richard Jett; and sister, Eathea Mae Toney.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Johnita Jones and Karen (Tommie) Blakeney; five grandchildren,  Loletta Simelton, Della Scales, Laurelia Lee, Briana Blakeney and Brandon Blakeney; and four great-grandchildren, Jayce Massey, Madison, Makenzie and Mason Lee; two sisters, Norma Darden and Nancy White; brother, James (Sylvia) Arnold; sister-in-law, Caron Jett; a host of nieces and nephews, two best friends, Shirley Bacon and Mary Wilson; and other relatives and friends.

Stella was known for her love and kindness toward everyone she encountered.  She was a strong independent woman. She took charge when needed; she provided intellectually nurturing conversations and guidance to many.  She believed in enjoying life, family and traditions.
