Sydney Lee Townsend, Sr., 86 of Charlotte, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Royal Park Rehabilitation and Health Center in Matthews, NC after a long-term illness.  Sydney was born on May 27, 1935, in Keysville, VA.  Sydney lived in Yonkers, NY for many years where he worked for Kane Miller Trucking Company for over 15 years.  Before moving to Spring Valley, NY where he was a resident for 37 years.  During that time, he pursued his passion to become an entrepreneur which was Townsend & Sons Trucking Co.  He also continued his work journey as a Truck Driver at Wyeth Aherst Pharmaceutical Laboratory (formerly Lederle Laboratories, a division of American Cyanamid).  After 20 years with Wyeth, he retired with his lovely wife, Wretha in 1993 when they decided to move to Charlotte, NC.

Sydney began his walk with God at the very early age of 12 and from then on, was any active member at Antioch Baptist Church, Keysville, VA, First Baptist Church in Spring Valley, NY, First Baptist Church West in Charlotte, NC, and Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.  At all his "church homes" Sydney served as a Trustee & was very involved with Sunday School and the Intercessory Prayer Ministry.

Sydney was predeceased by his lovely wife, Wretha Townsend, his mother, Ethel Coleman Townsend, father, William Hall, & his stepfather, Morris Townsend.  He was also predeceased by his 2 sons, Sydney Townsend, Jr. & Bryan Townsend.

He leaves to cherish his memory 3 loving sisters, Nannette Bragg, Crewe, VA, Joyce (Larry) Colemon, Mesa, AZ & Roberta Hall, Maple Shade, NJ; 4 daughters, Trudy (Edward) Jones, Charlotte, NC, Cassandra Haskins, Chesterfield, VA, Cynthia Townsend, Burlington, NC and Adrienne Kaambo, Powder Springs, GA., one son, Bernard (Angela) Townsend, Mint Hill, NC; 2 granddaughters, Lalisha Hurt, Chesterfield, VA, Dinadra Smith (Princess), Spring Valley, NY; 6 grandsons, Jeffrey Williams, Tirrell Fuller, Bryan Cash (Little Bryan), Alex & Justin Kaambo, and Mitchell Townsend; several great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Francine Townsend; Spring Valley, NY; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special caregivers.
