Obituary

Mother Sylvia Anita Alexander, 81 of Charlotte, departed this earthly life on Monday February 17, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on September 3, 1938 in Charlotte, NC to the late Eva Alexander and Tom McLilly.  She was married to the late Willis Truesdell.

Mother Alexander graduated from Second Ward High School (The Tigers) in 1956.  While in high school, she played on the basketball team and was a part of the band where she played the clarinet.

In July of 1980 at the age pf 42, she gave her life to Christ in Bible Study at the home of Sister Elizabeth Harris under the leadership of Pastor Aaron Raley (now Bishop) and First Lady Mary Raley of The Mission Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.  On February 21, 1982, God filled her with the Holy Ghost.  She served and worked for God by praying, worshipping, and using the healing gift of laying hands.  In 1995, Mother Alexander became a member of the Sacrifice of Praise Ministry under the leadership of Pastor L. R. Hamilton and First Lady Lorraine Hamilton.  For many years, she was a member of the usher board, prison ministry, and to fulfil her passion for singing, she was a committed member of the choir.

Mother Alexander was a loving, kind, thoughtful woman, always putting others first.  Her beautiful spirit was always encouraging and contagious to every person who she had the opportunity to meet.  She never hesitated to give her last and most importantly, she always searched for the next opportunity to give more.  She was truly the ROCK of her family and was definitely and angel in disguise.

Mother Alexander was preceded in death by her three brothers, David Alexander, Albert Alexander and Richard Alexander and two sisters, Betty Jean Alexander and Vickie Nesmith.

Mother Alexander is survived by her five children, Sutalia, Marlon, Arrita, Willette and Malcolm; eight grandchildren, Deonte', Marlon Jr., DeMarco (Samantha), Jerrod, Tavares (Tyuana), JeMario, Shaquana and Alexis; six great-grandchildren, Zion, Bryson, Malia, Elijah, Ivory and Kayden; one play daughter, Gladys Purnell; and a host of other relatives and special friends.
