Mrs. Sylvia Belk Connor, 69 of Charlotte, departed this life on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Atrium Health-Cabarrus.  She was the daughter of the late Coskalo and Onnie Belk, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 19, 1952.  Sylvia graduated from West Charlotte High School with the class of 1970 and attended Spellman College.  Sylvia later became an officer with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department in October 1978.  She spent the last years of her career as a Youth Sex Crimes Detective and advocated for the lives of under privileged children.  She retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department in 2007.

Sylvia was a founding member of the Charlotte Optimist Onyx Club and worked diligently in underserved communities.  Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Wilson.

Her life will forever be cherished by her husband of 34 years, Marion "Chuck" Connor; her children, Nikki Belk Steward (Jason), Tonya Ardrey (Carlton), Kyatta King, Chuck Connor, Scheldon Connor (Amanda); sisters Elaine White and Vanessa Black of Texas; aunts, Louise Johnson (Bobby) and Francis Carter; nine grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
