Mrs. Sylvia Jean McDowell went to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, October 1, 2023, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. Sylvia was born on January 2, 1955, to the late Genevieve Bell Jackson and John McDowell, Jr., in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sylvia graduate from Myers Park Senior High School and worked for the United States Postal Service where she served dutifully for twenty years. She later worked at Walmart until her health started declining.

Her most prized possession was the birth of her only child, Vanshon Montoya McDowell. She loved him very dearly and would often play dress up with him. She was also an affectionate dog lover. In 1980, Sylvia met the "love of her life", Mr. Jerome Green, and he faithfully took care of her for the last forty-three years. She loved spending time with them both.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving mother, Genevieve Bell Jackson, and father, John McDowell, Jr. She leaves to cherish loving memories, her companion, Mr. Jerome Green,; son, Vanshon "Shon" Montoya McDowell; three grand-children Zakiya Clyburn, Shania Craig, and Armani Craig; and a host of other relatives and friends.
