Obituary

Mrs. Sylvia Veronica Rogers (Roberts) peacefully transitioned on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at her residence in Indian Trail, NC. Sylvia entered the world January 28, 1970 in Mt. Vernon, NY as the second child of Otis and Mary Roberts. Sylvia, or as she was affectionately known by family as, "Dee Dee," was a smart child, raised in a loving home with her two sisters, Alevetta (Candy) and Regina. In childhood, Sylvia was surrounded by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sylvia earned her Bachelor's degree in Statistics at the University of South Carolina, graduating in 1994 and started her -financial services career as a teller while in college. Sylvia began her 24-year career at First Union in Charlotte, NC, where she was a revered co-worker and friend to many, known for her quiet, yet strong nature and subject matter expertise. While spending her career in multiple areas of the bank such as Commercial and Corporate Servicing, Sylvia's last role was as a Product Developer on the Regulatory Change, Learning, Policies and Procedures Team. Sylvia went back to school and earned a second Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015.

Sylvia married the love of her life, Roger, on April 22, 2006. If she and Roger were not testing their palates at various restaurants, they thoroughly enjoyed being together or going to the movies. Outside of work, she enjoyed volunteering, perusing magazines affectionately called "her books", shopping, decorating, talking on the phone, or spending time with friends and family.

As a friend, Sylvia was known as a great listener, with an infectious smile. She was an attentive listener who gave you the best advice or recommendation when asked. She often put aside her own issues to help explore and evaluate the needs of family and friends. She was a researcher of information and a "master collector of things".

Throughout her illness, Sylvia remained hopeful, encouraged, and sought prayer for healing. She lived by the prayer "The Light of God surrounds me. The Love of God enfolds me. The Power of God Protects me. The Presence of God watches over me. Wherever I am, God is." She would want her friends and family not to worry. She is at home and at peace. She was surrounded by her family and friends upon her passing.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband, Roger of Indian Trail, North Carolina; her parents Otis and Mary Roberts of Columbia, South Carolina; two sisters, Alevetta Chisolm (John) of White Plains, New York and Regina Roberts of Charlotte, North Carolina; mother-in-law, Sue Rogers of Charlotte, North Carolina; two brother-in-laws, Vince Rogers of Charlotte, NC and Montee Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia. She also enjoyed admiration and love from a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and colleagues who truly grieve in her passing.
