Mrs. Terry Strong McGriff, daughter of the late Walter Strong and Sadie Tillman, was born on March 14, 1938 in Charlotte, North Carolina the youngest of seven children. She departed this life on July 27, 2021 in the comfort of home surrounded by loved ones.
She attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, graduating from West Charlotte Senior High School in 1956. In high school, Terry was known for her majorette skills and pretty legs. After high school, she was very active in her WC alumni group remaining close to her classmates.
As a young adult Terry was employed by Delmar Printing and Hydro Prints Mill. Later, Terry found her calling loving and caring for nieces, nephews and extended family in her home. She was affectionally called "Grandma" by many. She was employed for almost 20 years at University Child Development Center where she continued her loving care for children until she retired in 2012.
In her early years, Terry was a member of the Salem Baptist Church family. Later she would join Simpson Gillespie United Methodist Church until she left to support and worship under the leadership of Reverend Alexis Anthony at Greater Vision United Methodist Church. There she remained a faithful member for over 18 years where she was actively involved with the Brothers and Sisters in Christ (B.A.S.I.C) ministry. She also served as a Greeter where her infectious smile made members and visitors always feel welcome. She loved her church family and was blessed to return after her health declined in March for one final time.
Terry will always be known as a party starter, awesome cook that extended her meals to all to enjoy, the cool Mom and Grandmother that found pleasure fellowshipping with the young and old, the protective one that loved her family dearly and most of all a child of God that spent her life never knowing a stranger and giving love and affection to all who knew her.
Terry was preceded in everlasting life by husband, Clyde McGriff; son, Eric Strong; brothers, Walter, Wayne, Bill and Bobby Strong; sisters, Vinnon Cathey and Martha Tillman; and special nephew, Jerry Strong.
