Obituary

Mr. Tevonte Epps, 24 of Charlotte, exchanged time for eternity on March 16, 2020 at Atrium Health- Main.  Born July 24, 1995 in Charlotte, North Carolina into a family where babies didn't come often, Tevonte' LaQuan Epps became everybody's child.  Born with that blessing, he never let the family forgot that he was "their child" and we'll never forgot him.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mr. Lucius Epps and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lois McKinney.  Some may say it was too soon but as the scriptures teach us..."My times are in Your hands" Psalm 31:15.  God's Time is PERFECT!  Tevonte' is now forever safe in the arms of Jesus.

"A Time to Live and Love" - Tevonte' (also known as Vonte" or Tadoe) loved life.  He enjoyed playing video games, driving, listening to music, working with new technology, dancing and trying to sing! He told his mother just 2 weeks ago, "I finally got a car off a car lot," because he was so happy that God had seen fit to bless him with a new ride.  By heart, he was an entrepreneur and had taken on the venture of managing one of his friends who had hopes of becoming a professional rapper.  Tevonte' also had his own aspirations of developing a clothing line and proudly shared his sketches with family and close friends.  He was the epitome of a father.  He adored, nurtured and cared for his son, Tevonte' LaQuan Jr., with a genuine love that only a real father could give.  He loved family, always looking out for their well-being and he was a faithful caregiver whenever needed for his "Granny."  He gave her anything she wanted, when she wanted it.  He was a protector of those he loved.

"A Time To Learn" - Tevonte' received his formal education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, graduating from West Charlotte High School in the Class of 2013.  He later attended Central Piedmont Community College to study accounting.

"A Time to Work" - Tevonte' work history included many years as an Auto Technician at Fast Track Auto.  He could be riding in your car and nonchalantly say, "That noise coming from the rear of your car sounds like a bad wheel bearing, need to get it fixed." He wouldn't push the issue but would ask about the repair when he saw you again.  He had also been employed part-time by FedEx as a freight handler and most recentley by CSX as a track worker.  In his spare time he drove for Lyft.

"A Time to Serve" - Tevonte' LaQuan Epps was christened in the O'Zion AME Zion Church as an infant and remained a life-long member.  He knew Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior.  In the church, Tevonte' began as a Bud Promise.  As he grew older, he served as a member (former president) of Zion's Finest Choir, Director of Youth for Christian Education, and member of the Steward Board.

Today, his family and friends are humanly broken but spiritually holding on the Promises of God believing that He has promised eternal life, He is always in control, He is always with us, and He will give us peace.

With this assurance, those left to cherish the memories of Tevonte' include: his mother, Candie Ardrena Epps; his infant son, Tevonte' LaQuan Epps, Jr.; his father who raised him, Trotti Massai Simmons; birth father, Anthony Caldwell; sisters, Tenaya Y. Simmons (best friend and confidant), Tecana Simmons, Britanny Caldwell, Dr. Ticola Ross, PhD (Charleston); brothers, Trottie Simmons, Jr. and Timothy J. Simmons; grandmother, Maggie B.
