Thel Petty, 56 of Charlotte, passed peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Atrium Health - Pineville, NC, after a courageous battle.

Thel was born on August 28, 1965, in Kings Mountain, NC to Sarah E. Petty and David Brooks.  He lived in Charlotte, NC and attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.  Thel served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps.  He received an MBA degree from Pfeifer University.  He was employed by Bank of America as a IT supervisor.

Thel was an accomplished jazz guitarist who played professionally.  He loved his family and his career.  Thel loved spending time with his family at Myrtle Beach.  He was an avid movie watcher and Dallas Cowboy fan.  He was known as a kind and hard-working man, a friend to all.  He was a devoted husband to his wife and father to their two sons.  He was a spiritual man who served the Lord in various capacities; he loved everyone.

Thel was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Joe L. Petty.  He is survived by his wife, Angela and two sons, Thel Junior and Jordan.  He is survived by his father, David L. Brooks of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three half brothers and one half sister.  He has one devoted sister, Joretta Petty and two brothers, Ivan Petty and Joe Petty, all of Charlotte, NC.  He has two sisters-in-law, Helena Jones (Bobby) of Rock Hill, SC, Malinda Azie of Charlotte, NC; and in-laws, Isaiah and Bleaker McCullough of Rock Hill, SC.  Thel leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and a multitude of special friends.
