Thelma Hoyle, 98 of Gastonia, departed this life on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.  She was the daughter of the late Cephas Pinckney and Lillie Williamson Hoyle, was born on Sunday, September 23, 1923 in Lawndale, North Carolina. She was one of 19 children with two sets of twins and she and her brother Nathaniel were one of the sets of twins.

She was educated in the Cleveland County School District and later graduated from Douglas High School in Lawndale, NC.  Thelma was employed by Charlotte Linen Service and retired at the age of 65.

Thelma was raised in the Christian faith. She grew up attending Philadelphia AME Church in her home town of Lawndale, NC.  In the 1950's she moved to Charlotte, NC and joined Amy James Presbyterian Church.  When Amy James closed, she became a member of South Tryon Presbyterian Church.  Unfortunately, it split and she found her church home at Clanton Presbyterian later renamed South End Presbyterian Church where she was a faithful member.  She loved attending Sunday School and was a member of Circle Number 2.  She did not hesitate to assist when needed.

Her favorite color was pink.  In her spare time, she liked to watch Family Feud, the Young and the Restless, and play Bingo.  In her earlier years she enjoyed doing crafts.  She painted a panther figurine for her son, Gene, featuring number 89 of the Carolina Panthers, Steve Smith Sr.  She also enjoyed traveling, being with her friends at Edwin Towers, and her family.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and 18 brothers and sisters.

Thelma leaves to celebrate her life, her sons: Gene Wayne Hoyle (Almerth), and Anthony Ryan Hoyle.  Eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and twenty eight great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
