Obituary

Thelma Meeks Isles, 85, of Belmont, NC, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

Mrs. Thelma Meeks Isles was born on August 2, 1940 in Gaston County, North Carolina to the late Jerry and Arnetta Cooke Meeks. She went to be with the Gracious Father on February 7, 2026 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia North Carolina.

Thelma attended Lincoln Academy and graduated from Highland High School in 1958. She was an excellent student and graduated with honors. She greatly enjoyed Home Economics and as most of you may attest to: She was The Best Cook Ever!!!! Along with being the best cook, she excelled in sewing until her hands began to lose strength. She not only cooked and sewed for her family, but extended her talented work to many relatives and friends.

She joined Herbert Isles in Holy Matrimony on August 17, 1958 and to this union were three blessed children: Dennis, Jeffrey and Sherry. She was employed with Pharr Yarn Industries for several years and at Elder Daycare for many years from which she retired. She worked very hard, with a strong work ethic while also being the ultimate homemaker, wife and mother.

Thelma was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist in her early years. She joined Love’s Chapel Presbyterian Church after marrying her beloved Herbert. She was a Deacon, Elder, Usher, and Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Women’s Association, Nominating Committee and Homecoming/Kitchen Committee. She was also a member of the Henry’s Chapel Cemetery Committee. Often being the First One to church and the LAST One to leave: SHE was A very important member to her church and she remained a strong, dedicated and faithful member until her health declined.

Thelma loved spending time with her family, friends and church family. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling, sewing, reading and trying new restaurants. She was an active member with the Belmont Gad Abouts until her health declined, but stayed up to date with their activities. She was also a member of the Les Charmantelles Social Group for several years.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, two sons: Dennis Isles Sr. (Diane) of Belmont, NC and Jeffrey Isles (Brian) of Charlotte NC and one daughter: Sherry Lovell (Micheal) of Charlotte NC, two sisters: Deloris Woods of Detroit, MI, Jo Ann Jacks (Hugh) of Chattanooga, TN, sister in law: Teresa Stowe of Belmont, NC, brother in law, Fernandez Grier of Gastonia NC, grandchildren: Duriel Conner (Crystal) of Charlotte, NC, Denisha Wiggins (James) of Gastonia NC, Dennis Isles Jr of Gastonia NC and Malachi Dixon of Charlotte NC; A bonus daughter, Deneen McClain (Terry) of Gastonia, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

Words cannot express how much this wonderful angel, nurturing mother, attentive counselor, strong in all things, superb cook/chef, unwavering friend to MANY, but most important-Child of God will be GREATLY Missed. We Know there is No More Pain, No More Dialysis, No More surgeries, No More Hospitals and No More rehabs: She is with her Lord and Savior-Father and Sustainer who has welcomed her home with Loving Arms. AMEN
