Theodore Horton, 83, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Atrium Health University Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

In Loving Memory of Mr. Theodore Horton

February 1, 1943 – June 25, 2026

Mr. Theodore Horton, 83, was born on February 1, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late John and Daisy Horton. In addition to his parents, Theodore was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Perry Horton. On June 25, 2026, he peacefully departed this earthly life at Atrium Health University City Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

At a young age, Theodore relocated to New York City with his family. Inspired by his brother's example, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in the Vietnam War. His faithful military service reflected his deep sense of duty, courage, and love for his country, and he was honorably recognized for his service. 

Following his military career, Theodore dedicated many years of service as a maintenance technician at the Durham County Government Center, where he became known as a dependable, hardworking employee. After years of faithful service, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and integrity. 

A man of quiet strength, Theodore was poised and unshaken in every sense. He was easy to get along with, a devoted worker, and above all, a man of faith who loved God. He was baptized on December 4, 2011, publicly affirming his commitment to Christ. As a faithful member of Mount Island Church of Christ, his life reflected his spiritual commitment and unwavering belief in the Lord. His gentle spirit, humble nature, and steadfast character touched the lives of everyone who knew him. 

Theodore cherished his family above all else. He shared 17 wonderful years with the love of his life, Renata Horton, including 14 years of marriage. Together they built a home filled with love, faith, and unwavering support. 

Cherishing his memory is his beloved wife, Renata Horton of the home; one daughter, Jenelle Bent of Manhattan, NY; two stepdaughters, Devona Thomas of Charlotte, NC, and Ashley Underwood of Baltimore, MD; eight beloved grandchildren with whom he shared a particularly special bond with his grandson, Drayton; sister, Joan Jia; seven sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law, brother in Christ, George W. Gatling, along with a host of extended family members,friends, church family, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.

 Although Theodore has departed from this earthly life, his legacy of faith, service, kindness, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His family finds comfort in knowing that he has received his heavenly reward and now rests peacefully in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
