Obituary

Thomasena Butler Dinkins Clay, affectionately known as "Tommie", passed away, on April 16, 2024, at Stanley Total Living Center in Stanley, NC. Tommie was born on December 15, 1930, in Charlotte, NC, the youngest child of the late Thomas Butler and Mamie Butler Dinkins Phillips. Tommie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Johnnie Lee Clay; son, Robert Long Sr; grandson, Robert Long Jr; sister Dorothy M Lawrence; brother, Sam H Dinkins; her sister-in-law, Rosetta Clemons; and her beloved cousin, Bertha M. White. She was also preceded in death by other brothers and sisters. Thomasena is survived by her son, William Long (Karen); step-son, Edward Clay (Rose); daughter, Dorothy Evans (Mario); step-daughter, Damiya Morris; daughter- in law, Brenda Long; sister-in-law, Julia Phillips, 5 granddaughters: Kim Simmons (Star), Joi Jett (Charles), Stephanie Clay, Kellee Evans, Brandi Evans; 8 grandsons: Bryant Boyd, Ronnie Long, Larry Long, Donahue Clay, Michael Clay (Meeka), Arthur Grier III, Allen Grier, and Mario Evans II (Jamie); nephews: Byron Dinkins, Lathan Phillips Jr, Formanda Phillips; nieces: Beverly Dinkins, Janice Vaughn, Barbara D. Phillips, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
