Obituary

Mr. Thurman Lee Tomlin Jr., 59, entered into his eternal life on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Thurman was born August 13, 1958, in Arlington Virginia, to Thurman Lee Tomlin, Sr. and Annie Mae Tomlin.  He graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington County, VA.

After dating for six years, Thurman married the love of his life and his best friend, Ms. Laurita Maria Anderson (aka,"Tutts") on April 27, 2002.  They spent the past 22 years together enjoying life, traveling the world and checking out the best "old school" concerts across the country.

Thurman spent the earlier part of his career in the automotive industry. Afterwards he became a certified driver for the American Trucking Industry. His driving career span was over fifteen (15+) years, the past five years working for J.H. Seale & Son as a tanker driver. His coworkers said he was a friend to everyone he met.

Thurman loved the Lord.  He treasured the times he spent with his family and will be missed by all. He enjoyed cooking, music, dancing and giving in order to meet others' needs above his own.  Thurman will be remembered as a man who truly loved his wife and family. He will be remembered as a warm, witty, loving husband who enjoyed making others laugh and enjoying all genres of music. Thurman demonstrated love by his words and deeds and believed in people more than they believed in themselves. He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his wildly entertaining personality, his work ethic, his generosity and his willingness to come at any time, day and night to help anyone in need. He would show up always with a smile, a plate of food and a joke.  If there was a need in his neighborhood everyone knew to come to him. He would give away food from his freezer and even items like lawnmowers and turkey fryer. His favorite saying during conversation with family was "love you, mean it".

Thurman is survived by wife of 16 years – Mrs. Laurita Tomlin; his daughters - TaLisha Champ (aka, "Wee-Zee") and Tiffany Hall; his four grandchildren - Nevaeh Wilkins, Jerome Wilkins, Tacari Hall-Payne, Trinity Hall-Payne; his brother - Floyd Tomlin (Jennifer); his sisters-in-love - Janice Anderson (Allen), Dorothy Stanley (Michael); Matriarch of the family - "Auntie" Mary Land; his lifelong friend - William "Bill" Bates (Donna) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Nations Ford Community Church, 5901 Nations Ford Rd, Charlotte.  Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.  Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
