Tonya Spates Simmons made her transition to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Novant Health Center/Hospice, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tonya S. Simmons, 56, of Charlotte, North Carolina was born in Englewood, New Jersey on January 17, 1965, to Eliza Williams Spates and the late Reuben Spates who preceded her in death on August 17, 1999.

Tonya was a lovable daughter, wife and mother to her children; sister, aunt and loved by all who knew her. She loved teaching children about the love of Jesus.  Tonya was an educator.  She attended Winston Salem University and graduated from Teaneck High School in New Jersey.  She worked in the CMS System.  She worked at the following schools during her years in the school system:  East Mecklenburg HS and Mallard Creek HS of Charlotte, Brisbane Academy, Hopewell HS of Huntersville, NC, Central Piedmont Community College, and Strayer University-LRC, North and South Campus.  Her expertise in teaching was Math, Marketing and Business Administration.  She was also a tutor and loved teaching.

Tonya leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, Bruce Edward Simmons; her children, Keon and Micah Simmons of the home, Ronisha Leonard (Antonio) and Jerik Simmons of Charlotte, NC and Rashanda Marshall (Quincy) of Georgia; her mother, Eliza Spates; brother, Keith Reuben Spates; niece, Charde Spakes; nephew, Julius Crews; great-niece, Ryleigh Crews; five grandchildren, Qanard, Deon, Raynah, Raniya and Qori; and a host of other family members, relatives and friends.

She also leaves in-laws, Roxie Bradshaw (Fred), Peggy Samuels (David), Martha Smith (James), Brenda Simmons, Wendy Simmons, Paulette Simmons, Clyde Simmons, and Eddie Simpson. She was preceded in death by Mary S. Simpson.

Tonya, you will missed.  We will carry your love and memories in our hearts.  We will love you forever!!!
