Obituary

Mr. Tracy Shawn Gibbs, 61, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Sunday, August 19, 2024 at Novant Huntersville.

Tracy Shawn Gibbs, 61, of Concord, NC, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 17, 1962. He entered into eternity on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Novant Medical Center, Huntersville. Burial will be private.

Mr. Gibbs was the son of the late Thomas L. Gibbs and the late Barbara McClain Gibbs. A proud graduate of West Charlotte High School Class of 1980, he continued his education at East Carolina University, in Greenville, NC earning his bachelor's degree in 1985.  At West Charlotte, Tracy was a trainer and equipment manager for the football and boys' basketball teams. In his senior year, he served as one of the student assistant coaches for the boys' basketball team. During his time at ECU, he continued his involvement in sports by serving as the equipment manager for the football team. While at ECU, Tracy did his student teaching at A. G. Cox Middle School in Winterville, NC.  He often told stories of his experiences with the students students . The kids adored him, and he adored them.

Later, he worked with the Charlotte Rage Arena Football Team and the Amsterdam Admirals of the World League of American Football. Tracy worked in the health care services field for over 30 years. He got immense joy from encouraging his clients and consumers to work hard to overcome challenges and to achieve their highest potential. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and supported his brother Tim's affinity for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
