Obituary

Tresia Gale Cureton, 69 of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Mrs. Tresia Barfield Cureton, lovingly known as “Gale” to her siblings, nieces, and nephews, was called home on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Novant Presbyterian Hospital.

Tresia was born on January 31, 1957, in Snow Hill, North Carolina to the late Jesse and Ella Barfield. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Shamar Cureton, and her siblings, Cynthia Little, Doris Burgess, and Robert Barfield.

Tresia moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to attend Johnson C. Smith University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Business. She later began a successful career with Duke Energy, where she dedicated more than 30 years of service before retiring.

Tresia was truly a beautiful soul. She loved spending time with family and friends — whether it was playing backgammon, doing Soul Train lines, dancing with her husband, talking and laughing with her siblings, or simply sitting together watching Family Feud. She had a warmth and kindness that made everyone feel loved and welcomed. Her laughter filled every room, and to know her was truly to love her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 45 years, Steven Cureton; her sons, Geoffery Cureton and Deryck Cureton; and her daughter, Jessica Duncan (Keith, Jr.). She is also survived by her three sisters, Esther Mae Carr of Greenville, NC; Edna B. Lee of Kinston, NC; and Carolyn Barfield of Greenville, NC; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
