Vanessa Diane Darby was born on September 16, 1952, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the eldest of four children born to Marian and Nathaniel Darby. Vanessa departed from her earthly life to enter her heavenly home on Friday March 29, 2024.

Vanessa attended public schools in Mecklenburg County and graduated from West Charlotte Senior High school in 1970. She attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked at the Federal Reserve Bank until 1974 and went to work at S&A Flower Shop and later, Stroud's Florist. Vanessa loved to sing and shared her voice with a variety of choirs including the West Charlotte Choral Chorale under Mrs. Hortense Reed, Director; Greater Charlotte Community Chorale under Lonnie Mae Miller; United for Christ under Andrew Culbertson; New Life Community Choir under John P. Kee, and the Reeder Memorial Mass and Hymn Choirs.

As a kidney dialysis patient, Vanessa established The Lights Of Love, a non-profit organization to provide support, encouragement, and basic necessities throughout the years for fellow patients that are striving to improve and overcome low socioeconomic conditions and various health challenges.

She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Simeon McMoore; one daughter, Sayoki McMoore; one grandson, Christian McMoore -Caraway, all of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Jewel Darby and Yasmin Darby, one brother, Nathaniel Darby of all Charlotte, NC; one uncle, Lee Erwin Jr. (Alice) and one

aunt, Mary McCleave of Charlotte, NC; best friend Andrew Culbertson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
