Obituary

Vaughn Watson Yongue, affectionately known as "Vaughn," was born May 4, 1936 to Lois Dean Watson and Randolph Watson of Charlotte, NC.   She was the oldest child.   She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Barbara Dean W. Ricket and Sylvia W. Leeper), and two children (Charles M. and Curtis A. Yongue).  She departed this life on Saturday morning, February 16, 2019.

At an early age, Vaughn was baptized and joined Gilfield Missionary Baptist Church, now known as University Park Church, where she participated in numerous activities.

Vaughn was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools, graduating from West Charlotte Senior High School in 1954.  While in high school, she participated  in and enjoyed the following: basketball, cheering, track, softball, drivers education, crocheting, knitting, typing and many other programs and activities.

On May 1, 1957, Vaughn was united in holy matrimony to Charles M. Yongue, Sr. of Charlotte, NC.  To their union, they were blessed with three sons, Charles Milton, Curtis Andre and Charles Jeffrey Yongue.  They have also been blessed with a lovely daughter-in-law, Lolane Knox Yongue; and two precious grandchildren, Mahogany Le'Shae and De'Andre Charles Yongue.

Vaughn possessed all the qualities of a true housewife.  Her life was simply devoted to her family, church and community.

Vaughn joined the church of her husband, which was Seventh Street Presbyterian Church, now known as First United Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Vaughn was actively involved in the FUPC Choir, Presbyterian Women Organization, Usher Board, Hand Bell Choir, and other related church activities.

Socially, Vaughn loved to play card games.  She was very good and had won a few trophies.  One of her favorite games in particular was POKENO.  She continued to play with several groups until her health declined.  She also loved to travel with the Epsilon Theta Women's Club and was a part of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Senior Line Dance Group.
