Obituary

Vernell Elliott Turner, 68, of Belmont, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House-Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC.

In Remembrance of Our Beloved

 Vernell Elliott Turner

Vernell Elliott Turner was born on May 29th, 1957, in Sumter, SC, to the late Luther Elliott and Vernice Elliott. Vernell entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Vernell spent her years between Philadelphia, PA, and Jersey City, NJ, amongst family and friends before moving to North Carolina two years ago to be fully cared for by her daughter due to her illness.

Vernell loved her family and was known to most family members as “ Banana” or “ Nelly Nell”. Vernell was also known for her fashion style as she always dressed to impress, no matter what the occasion. Vernell enjoyed music, dancing, good food, and just having a good ole time among the people she loved. Vernell enjoyed her years working at United Airlines up until her retirement in 2019-2020. Vernell is known to be the champion ( she said it) in the card game of Spades, and she would challenge anyone. As vibrant and loving as she was, she definitely was feisty even during her time of being ill and had no problem telling you the truth about yourself ( don’t play with her). Vernell’s final hours, despite her pain and illness, were filled with peace, love, rest, and reassurance.

Vernell leaves to mourn her loss: Husband: Ulysses F. Turner, children, daughters Tammie Taniesha Elliott of Charlotte, NC, Shonda Bryant of Belmont, NC, and Son Jermaine Elliott of Jersey City, NJ. Siblings: Brothers; Luther Elliott, Antonio Elliott, and Nathan Elliott; Sisters: Adrienne Elliott, Teresa Elliott, and Catherine Felder. Grandchildren: Cynthia Elliott, Kaila Crute, Jahiem Elliott, Kiana Elliott, Unique Elliott, Serenity Elliott, Chloe Crute, and Taniesha Sanchez. As well as a host of other dear relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Vernell was preceded in death by her son Earl Kenneth Elliott and her brother Ricky Elliott.
