Vida Yvonne Blocker, 74 of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday April 16, 2020 at Novant Presbyterian-Main. She was born in Burlington, North Carolina on October 2, 1945 to the late Williams Schofield Brown and the former Minerva Keaton Brown.  In addition to her parents, Vida was preceded in death by siblings Schofield June Brown, Drucilla Marie Hardy, Lewis Forney, and Kate Beard.

Vida was educated in McDowell County, NC Schools where she graduated from Mountain View High School.  After high school, Vida served her community through volunteer work.  Vida had the Gift of Comforting Words.  She served as a Christian telephone counselor for Billy Graham Ministries, providing Bible scripture, prayer and words of encouragement.  She also volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital.  She would deliver magazines and flowers to patients' and offer words of comfort.

Vida was trained as a Surgical Instrument Technician at Presbyterian Hospital where she worked for many years.  Vida worked as a CNA and took care of patients for several years, as well.  She was a Caring and Loving woman.  Through volunteer work and her work profession, Vida was a Loving comfort to many people all her life.

Vida married her former husband David and they had two children, Darrin and Sherry.  Vida was a wonderful Mother and Hero.  When Sherry was eighteen months old, she drunk Kerosene that was in a Coke bottle.  The Marion NC hospital refused to treat Sherry.  They said Sherry was going to die because her chest was rattling and there was nothing they could do.  Vida kept trying.  Vida had a friend rush Sherry to the hospital in Asheville, NC where they saved her life.  When Darrin almost lost his life in a car accident at age 21, he was on life support.  Vida stayed by his side in the hospital.  She told doctors not to take Darrin off of life support. Vida did not give up on Darrin.  He did recover.  Vida helped support Darrin through many months of recovery.  Through the Grace of God, Vida did not give up on her children Darrin and Sherry; they are both alive today.  Vida, a Hero, was a wonderful Mother, Comforter and Friend to Sherry and Darrin all her life; she will be missed.

When they were children, Vida would always throw birthday parties for Sherry and Darrin.  Vida would attend all of Darrin's football games where Sherry was a cheerleader.  Vida loved pets.  She had a dog named Bingo.  Now Bingo belongs to Darrin.  Vida also Loved growing Flowers and Gardening.  Vida could sew and make dresses and scarves.  Sherry has a Beautiful scarf Vida made for her.  She could also play the Organ.  Vida was Gifted and Smart.  With Joyful memories and Love, Vida will be missed by all her family, her children, and friends.

Vida is survived by two children, Darrin Hopper and Sherry Ross and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Jimmie Wilkins and Beverly Carson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
