Mrs. Vivian Poage-Pierce, neé Vivian Ann Fulson, was born to the late William Hayward Fulson and the late Leathia Rhinehardt in Charlotte, NC; was 88 years old received her heavenly wings, October 15, 2020. She was educated in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, and finished her academic education with a nursing degree in New York. She resided in New York until the passing of her husband Japer Pierce, and moved to Cleveland, OH to be near her daughters Zenada Phillips and Zebada Scott. Her eldest daughter Sylvia Rivers would visit frequently from her home in North Carolina to also care for her.
Vivian was a pillar of her family and her community. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. For her career she worked as a nurse at A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility in Long Island, NY. Upon retirement, she took on private duty nursing cases and treated each of her patients and their families as her own family.
Vivian was keen on civic and social engagement serving in leadership roles in such organizations as the Lions Club International, Key Women of America, A. Holly Patterson Retirees, and others. She was an adept fundraiser and social and community events planner for her organizations. She was well known for planning a community holiday party for the children of Lakeview, NY using funds and donations she raised throughout the year. Vivian valued education and social responsibility. She served as a poll worker for various elections, supported scholarship funds for the youth in her community and made regular contact with her local elected officials. In her spare time, Vivian was an avid gardener, fisher, international traveler, and took in theatre productions regularly.
Vivian will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the church family of Solid Rock Ministry of Cleveland, OH where she was often a visitor.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband Jasper Pierce. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters- Sylvia A. Rivers of Greensboro, NC, Zenada F. Philips (Anthony Sr.) of Cleveland, OH, and Zebada D. Scott of Cleveland, OH; six grandchildren- Maruka J. Rivers, Anthony Philips, Jr., Alicia Philips, Lawrence Scott II, Elliott V. Scott, Arielle L. Scott; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished family friends.
