On a quiet evening of August 17, 2020, surrounded by his loved one, Walter Edsel Phillips Jr., slipped into eternal rest.  Walter was born on July 30, 1950 to the late Hazel Graves Phillips Adams and Walter E. Phillips Sr. in Yanceyville, NC.

Walter was educated in the Danville, VA Public School System and graduated from John M. Langston High School where he was a member of the marching band.  After high school, Walter attended Barber Scotia College where he became a proud member of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Incorporated.  In addition to many life-long friendships he made there, he was blessed to have also met the love of his life, Brenda.  He was affectionately known to close friends as "Junior" or "Chinese."

Walter attended New St. John Baptist Church where he was a faithful member and chairman of the Trustee Board.  Being the compassionate and loving man that he was, Walter always wanted to know what he could do to help others. He made friends everywhere he went and often took time out of his day to call and check to see how everyone was doing.  He was dedicated to his family and a devoted husband.  He was a great cook, and in his spare time, he enjoyed entertaining family and friends with a home cooked meal or cookout.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching NASCAR.  Walter was a huge Washington Redskins fan and a collector of the team memorabilia.  He retire as a self-employed computer technician and successful business owner of Traditions Computer Service.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Walter E. Phillips III, "Irvin."
