Mr. Wayne Brown, Jr., 83, of Charlotte, affectionately known as "June," was born the elder of two sons to Wayne Brown, Sr. and Janie Brown on December 30, 1931 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Wayne quietly entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Charlotte Healthcare Center in Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Belk Brown; brother, Richard Lee Brown; and son, Wayne Brown, III. Wayne received his formal education through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System at Plato Price and Pineville High Schools. In 1951, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Technical Specialist II and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Later in life, he relocated to the Washington, DC area where he resided for over 30 years. While there, he was employed by and retired from the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation. Upon returning to Charlotte, he worked for Ovens Auditorium. June was originally affiliated with the O'Zion AME Zion Church, later becoming a member of The Church in the City, where he served as a greeter, usher and a member of the culinary committee. He was a Bible scholar who studied and shared the Word of God with everyone he met; he was a kind person who truly loved the Lord. June enjoyed the simple things in life which included cooking and fellowshipping with people. He never owned a car or applied for a driver's license but always got where he needed to go. He had a loving, generous heart, always buying a meal for the homeless, opening his door to those in need and giving to others. He never met a stranger.
