Mr. Welton Walter Spencer, 66, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on January 1, 2025, at his residence.
Welton Walter Spencer, Sr., aka "Timmy," was born November 21, 1958, in Columbia, North Carolina, to the late Walter James Hinton and Sarah Janie Spencer. Welton left this world and walked gracefully into his eternal home on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Welton was baptized at an early age at Salem Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Columbia public schools in Tyrrell County from Pre-K to 12th grade. He further continued his education and graduated from "The Elizabeth City State University" (proud Viking) in 1981. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He received his master's degree from Lenoir Rhyne University located in Hickory, NC.
Welton served the Mecklenburg County community by upholding multiple jobs such as Department of Social Service (Social Worker), Youth and Family Services (Intervention Counselor), Tom Ray Youth Detention Center (Counselor), National Crisis Intervention Plus (Instructor), and Livingstone College (Maintenance Manager).
Welton was a certified scuba driver, a cyclist for many years, loved music, dancing, fishing, and bragging on having the best potato salad. He was a Tar Heels basketball fan. He started out as a Washington Redskin football fan and later converted to a true Carolina Panther fan. He enjoyed spoiling his grandkids, often attending their sporting activities, taking them on random rides around Charlotte, and chatting on facetime after school to hear about their day. Welton loved to help and encourage others to achieve their goals in life.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Milton Guy Simpson, James Spencer Sr., Johnnie Simpson, Duke of Earl Spencer; three sisters, Janie Alice Spencer, Darlene Spencer (Victor) and Laverne Spencer Basnight; sister-in-law, Phyllis Spencer; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Smith.
Welton leaves his love and spirit to his wife of 30 years, Aundra Spencer; five children, Welton Spencer Jr. (Jessica), Sarah Spencer Reid (Jerome), Marcus Gladden, Jordan Spencer, and Matthew Spencer; seven grandchildren, Amari Crump, Ava Gladden, Jerome Reid Jr, Ace Gladden, Ava Reid, Welton Spencer III "Tripp", and Baby Reid, all of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Arlene Midgett (Henri) and Inez Spencer of Columbia, NC, Sharon Smith of Hampton, Virginia; brother, Claude Beaufort of Columbia, NC; brothers-in-law, Victor Ware of Atlanta, GA and Victor Banks of Columbia, NC; sisters-in-law, Merlene Simpson, Freda Simpson, of Columbia, NC and Stacy Wright Wilson (Wayne) of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
