Obituary

Thomasina "Wilene" White Potts, 81 of Charlotte, passed away on Friday May 17, 2019 at her residence.  She was born August 1, 1937 in Charlotte, NC and gained her wings in glory.

She is the daughter of Luvenia Caldwell and Thomas White, Sr., who preceded her in death.  Brother J.C. Caldwell also preceded her in death.

As a child, Wilene attended McClintock School and Sterling School.  In her active years, she worked for Dobbs House Airport and Pharr Yarn Spinning Mill.  After 17 years working at Pharr Yarn, she retired and became a caregiver and housekeeper.

In her youth, Wilene was a member of Steele Creek A.M.E. Zion church until marrying the love of her life Weldon Potts, Jr. in 1957.  She joined McClintock Presbyterian, where she actively served as a Deacon, leader of the Culinary Committee, and member of the Presbyterian Women until her health failed.  Wilene had a unwavering faith in God and believe that she could "Do all things through Christ".  Each morning and night, she constantly recited this scripture throughout her sickness and never stopped thanking God for everything.

A devoted wife, mother of four children and granddaughter "Cherise", grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and friend, she lived her life to make others feel special.  She had an innocent humor, that would leave you smiling and thinking at the same time.  A wise woman of many gifts and talents who could warm your "heart and stomach".  Wilene was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family, her church and anyone in need. Other pastime activities she enjoyed were freezing and preserving food, receiving flowers, gardening, and she had a love of fashion, especially wearing hats.

Wilene leaves to cherish her memories, loving husband of 61 years, Weldon Potts, Jr.; children, Carolyn Potts, Debbie Johnson (Lewis), Demetric Potts (Anita), and Terri Potts-Wallace (Tellyes); grandchildren, Marlecia Kay (whom she raised), Brittany Johnson, Myles Gramling, Lewis Johnson III, Courtney Potts, Brianna Potts, Raegen Potts, and Lauren Potts; great-grandchildren; Alecia Grant, and Kiarra Grant; brother, Thomas White, Jr., (Dorothy); sister-in-laws; Neely Christian (Willie) and Mary Potts; one special aunt that helped raise her, Janie McClain; special friends, Mildred Wilkes, Gracie Hargrove, Viola Brewton and Georgia Kennedy and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
