Mrs. Willette G. Hinton, 97 of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Wilora Lake Health.

The beautiful matriarch of the Hinton family, Willette Hinton, transitioned peacefully to be in the loving arms 9of the Lord that she served.

Willette Hinton was born in Charlotte, NC in her beloved Hoskins Community to George Gaither Sr. and Eula Ferguson Gaither, along with her brothers and sisters.

In her earlier years, Willette was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and attended Sunday School.  She was married to Johnnie Hinton Sr. and raised her eight children proudly, sometimes with tough love mixed with that love that only a mother could have for her children.  Willette was a faithful member of Parkwood CME Church until her health began to decline in her later years.  She truly loved the Lord and lived by her favorite scripture from Proverbs 3:5-6 King James Version:  "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all they ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."

"Mother" or "Mama" as her family lovingly called her, loved cooking holiday meals for the family, taking care of her grandchildren, and most of all, going to the beach watching the sun rise with her coffee and newspaper.  It was a tradition for Willette, her daughters and grandchildren to take a trip to the beach every summer, and she always looked forward to going and stopping by Stacks for breakfast before heading home.

Mother Willette was a private and gentle soul, who was so loved and blessed to have all of her children take care of her, especially during her most vulnerable moments.  They returned that love and care right back to her and treated her like the Queen that she always knew she was.

Mother Willette leaves to cherish her loving memories and many funny and sweet stories for her daughters Jeannette Hinton Dorsey, Pauline Hinton Morrow, Peggy Jean Hinton (Wayne), Cynthia Hinton Huntley (Dale), and her son Robert Ray Hinton (Tammy); ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, preceding Willette in passing are her husband, Johnnie Hinton Sr.; son, Johnnie Hinton Jr., daughters, Joann Hinton and Lindon Hinton Glover; brothers, Sam Gaither, George Gaither Jr., Marion Gaither, Harvey Gaither; sisters, Lillian Gaither Moore, Christine Gaither Sanders, Betty Gaither, Barbara Gaither, and Cleo Gaither Wilson.
