Mr. William Earl Smith, 76 of Charlotte, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 to Atrium Health-Main. He was best know as Earl and was born September 11, 1944 in Lincoln County, NC, the son of Earnest and Lucille (Hunt) Smith.

Mr. William Earl Smith attended Ridgeville High in Hickory, NC.  After high school Earl lived in California and D.C., but always called Hickory his home.  Earl spent many years employed at Shuford Yarns until the decline of his health.  He also worked for a number of years at Catawba Springs Golf Course, where he was able to develop his passion for golf.

Mr. William Earl Smith was fun loving and will be remembered as always having a good joke or funny story to share.  He loved hunting and was an avid golfer.  Thanksgiving were particularly special as he always looked forward to spending time with family, eating good and to the annual golf trip he went on with his brothers.  In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Bessie Little, Joy Drovin and Helen McCullough; brothers, Earnest "Bob" Smith and Edward "Po Boy" Smith.

To cherish his memories, Mr. William Earl Smith leaves behind his sister, Rosemary Little; brothers, Harold Smith, Rev. Dr. Johnny B. McDonald and David McDonald.  He also will be lovingly remembered by a host of very special nieces, nephews, family and special friend, Ruby Ramseur.

A very special thanks to Tonya Smith, his niece, who always assured he was taken care of while he lived in Charlotte, as well as to the staff of East Towne Assisted Living.
