Obituary

Willie Anthony Baldwin II, 40, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in Matthews, NC.

With deep love and heavy hearts, the family of Willie Anthony Baldwin II—als0 known as “Tony”, “Bud”, or “Bud Jennis”— shares news of his passing on March 6, 2026.

Tony was born on January 27, 1986, the second child and elder son of Willie “Amp” Baldwin and Stephanie Baldwin. As a young boy, Tony was very much a true “daddy’s boy” who loved being by his dad’s side. Tony was also known for being a little mischievous and a natural jokester, often keeping his family laughing and occasionally keeping his parents on their toes. Even then, his charm and bright smile made it impossible to stay upset with him for long. Growing up alongside his siblings, they shared a bond built on laughter, love, and the unspoken understanding that they would always stand by one another no matter what life brought their way. As children, the four siblings affectionately called themselves the “Fearsome Four,” convinced they could take on the world together.

Tony was a man whose presence naturally brought warmth, laughter, and vibrant energy to those around him. He loved telling a good story and often found humor and meaning in even the most ordinary moments. Known for his playful personality, thoughtful spirit, and quick wit, he had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Tony was a source of fun and adventure. He enjoyed creating memories filled with laughter, stories, and playful moments. Whether sharing jokes, offering guidance, or simply enjoying time together, Tony had a special way of making every moment feel meaningful and joyful. Those who knew him will remember his sincerity, curiosity, and the genuine care he showed by showing up for life’s important moments with encouragement, humor, and unwavering support.

Tony had many interests and passions that reflected his lively and inquisitive nature. He was an avid lover of music, with a particular appreciation for hip hop, R&B, and house music, relentless in his musical exploration. He also had a deep enthusiasm for sports, cars, and drag racing—interests that spoke to his adventurous spirit. A devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Tony truly enjoyed sports at every level, from high school games to professional competition.

Tony was naturally curious about everything around him, taking satisfaction in figuring out how things worked and attempting to improve them with his own hands—sometimes successfully, sometimes not. He also had a deep appreciation for knowledge and trivia. Whether watching Jeopardy!, playing thought-provoking games, or sharing bits of random (and sometimes useless) information, Tony enjoyed learning and engaging his mind. Tony began attending Union Church in Charlotte, where he felt he had found a church home that would nurture and support the spiritual life he shared with his wife and children.

Tony attended NCA&T, where he played on the football team. He later earned his Bachelor’s degree from Liberty University and his Master’s degree from NC Central University. Guided by a natural ability to understand and empathize others, he dedicated his professional life to education and the well-being of young people. As a school administrator and counselor, Tony possessed a unique gift for mentoring and guiding children and adolescents, offering encouragement, a listening ear, and often a well-timed joke when it was needed most. For many students, he was more than an educator; he was a trusted advocate and a steady source of support.

Tony married Krystle Butts on July 26, 2014. Together they built a loving home and welcomed three children. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, and his children were the greatest joy and guiding purpose of his life. Their home was filled with laughter, conversation, music, and the warmth of his presence—never a dull moment. His loving and lighthearted spirit shaped the way he cared for those closest to him and defined the legacy he leaves behind. Tony and Krystle were true soulmates who balanced one another beautifully—his “yin” to her “yang.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie “Amp” Baldwin; paternal grandparents, James and Vandalia Baldwin; and maternal grandparents, Marcellus and Geneva Rodgers.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 11 years, Krystle, and their three children: Bailey (10), Brooks (8), and Brett (5); his mother, Stephanie; two sisters, Candace (Markelle) and Chelsea (Brandon); and his brother, Quenton. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, colleagues, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Though his life was far too short, the impact of Tony’s kindness, compassion, and joyful spirit will continue to be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the countless stories that will continue to be told in his honor.

If you knew Tony, you probably have a great story—and we hope you keep telling it.
