Willie Tryon Christian, son of the late Sam Leake and Ella Lou Christian, was born on January 1, 1939 in Wadesboro, North Carolina. Educated in the public school system, Willie graduated from Anson County High School. He moved to Charlotte, NC to work at Dobbs House International where he met and married Neely Potts. Willie worked as a manager for Dobbs House International for thirty years. After retirement, he worked for NAPA for ten years. He served the community with Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for fifteen years. Willie always maintained two jobs until his failing health. He departed this life on August 18, 2023. He is now reunited with his parents; siblings; Eddie Christian, Ruby Leake, Debbie Graham, Daisy Newman, Bobby Moore, daughter; Lisa Tillman, grandson; Jonathan Christian, and great-grandson; Zanye Johnson.
After marriage, Willie joined McClintock Presbyterian Church. He was a faithful servant leader where se served as an Elder, Deacon, member of the the Gospel Choir. He was a member of the S.S. Mariners where he held the position of Skipper for two terms.
Willie had a red Chevrolet truck he loved dearly. His favorite riding buddy was his late grandson Jonathan (J.R.). He also loved taking pictures, dancing, videoing, planting, and keeping his yard "Cut to the T."
Willie leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 62 years, Neely Potts Christian; children: Edward Christian (Norma), Edith Christian, and La"Shanda Christian (James), Sister; Julia Christian, Honorary Sister;; Annette Withers, Honorary Brother; Freddie Withers, Sister-in-love; Eva Potts, Brother-in-love; Weldon Potts, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
