Mr. Willie James Sherrill, or Pete, as he is affectionately called by all who know and love him was born on December 27, 1965 in Charlotte, NC to Willie Thrasher, Jr, who preceded him home, and Patricia Sherrill Shine. On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, God looked down, saw that he was tired and welcomed him home to rest.
He was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School in 1984. He was employed by Barnhardt Manufacturing. Pete enjoyed life and people and would want us to continue to do the same. As he would say, "That's what's up."
Whether it was football season or not he let you know that he was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. There was no other team in the NFL that was better and he might even try to convince you that no other team existed. If he wasn't talking Pittsburgh Steelers he was talking and playing softball. Pete, the softball player was always ready for a game no matter where or how far he had to travel.
As much as he loved his Steelers and his softball, he loved his family more and they knew it. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nia Sherrill, and his grandmother Aileen Sherrill.
To cherish his memories and continue his legacy he leaves, his devoted and loving wife, Monica Sherrill; mother, Patricia Shine, three sons; Willie (Boodah) Sherrill of Colorado, Justin Sherrill of Charlotte, NC, and Darius Whitney of Durham, NC; two daughters, Breanna Smith, and Ashley Sherrill, both of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren; Cameryn and Skylar Sherrill, of Colorado and Brysen Grier of Charlotte, NC, siblings; brothers, Marvin (Ben) Gabriel, of Mooresville, NC, Antwain Thrasher, Reginald Cureton, Terry Thrasher, all of Charlotte, NC, sisters, Felicia (Fleaky) Shine, Carolyn Thrasher, Geraldine Thrasher, all of Charlotte, NC; uncles, James Sherrill of Maryland, Freddie Sherrill of Charlotte, NC; a very special aunt (mother), Ethel (Poochie) Biggers (Terry), of Charlotte, NC, aunts, Annie Ford, Florene Shine (John), and Mary Multry (Claude); his mother and father in law, Linda and Curtis Smith whom he calls "Moms" and "Pop" and we can't leave out is loyal companion, Duke. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
