On August 30, 2020, Rohan Anthony Johnson Sr., (aka 'Jimmy' or 'Cry Cry') of Charlotte, was called home to be with the Lord after 59 years of life. He was born on August 7, 1961 to Esmeralda Gunning and Stephen Johnson in Albion Mountain, St Mary, Jamaica, West Indies. He was the first of eight siblings by his mother, and the eldest of his father's three children.
At age three, Rohan went to live with his grandmother, Susan Johnson in Preston Hill, St. Mary; where he grew up alongside his brother Dennis Johnson (Flappy) and his other cousins. His brother was his best friend and they shared a very close relationship.
On August 1983, Rohan was blessed with his first beautiful daughter, Nickala Johnson (now Major), whom he had with Belinda Pollock. (Nickala is now married to Joseph Major.)
In February, 1988, Rohan and Joyceline Anderson met and started a relationship and produced a beautiful daughter, Jimoy Johnson who was born on March 1989-they cemented their bond in marriage in December 1989.
In 1990, Rohan and Jimoy migrated to Canada; where they stayed with his step-brother Andre Johnson (Steve) for two years.
In March 1992, Rohan and his daughter joined his wife Joyceline in Brooklyn, New York and were blessed with their son, Rohan Anthony Johnson Jr, born on Mach 1993. As the years went on, Rohan and Joyceline divorced, and he later met Maxine Tasher to whom he was married for over ten years. From this union however, Rohan had stepchildren Andrew, Tiffany and Tameika.
In 2003, Rohan left New York to reside in Charlotte, North Carolina to be closer to his three children. He started his career as a bus operator working for Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), where he met his dear friend, Vanessa Olton. They developed a strong relationship where he became godfather for her children Hassan and Kawon Olton and a role model for Sprit Olton.
His life often times included his circle of extended family and friends, such as cousins from New York, his brothers, sisters and friends from his job. Rohan was known over the years as a comedian, with everyone being drawn to his smile, his laugh and his welcoming personality.
In 2017, he met Gayan Anderson and got married in January 2019. The marriage welcomed his beautiful step-children, Delroy and Nevaeh.
He left behind his loving family including wife, Gayan, as well as his children Nickala, Jimoy, Rohan Jr., Delroy and Nevach; his grandchildren, Mariah, Khalia, James, Ayden and Lilah. He also left behind his mother, Esmie; his sisters, Tameika, Tamara, Aljue, Daslyn and Shullette. His brothers, Dennis, Mark, Richie and Donovan. His many cousins, nieces and nephews, along with many close friends, including his faithful best friend, Vanessa.
Rohan is sadly missed. May he rest in the arms of our God.
