Our History

Grier Funeral Service, Inc. has served the greater Charlotte area since 1930.

Since our inception, we have dedicated ourselves to providing exceptional service to the community. Over the years, the funeral home has relocated as it has expanded and grown, but our commitment to serving our customers has remained unchanged.

Established by Mr. Arthur S. Grier and his brother, Leroy Grier, Grier Funeral Service’s long history began on First Street in the historic Brooklyn community of Charlotte. In 1965, the funeral home relocated to 2310 Statesville Avenue and remained there until purchasing the former McGee Presbyterian Church and moving to our current location, formerly known as 115 North Cloudman Street, in 1994.

In 2007, North Cloudman Street was renamed John McCarroll Avenue in honor of the then President of Grier Funeral Service, Mr. John A. McCarroll. Mr. McCarroll started working with Grier Funeral Service in 1936 and was an exceptional leader who served countless families until he retired after over 73 years of dedicated service. Though Mr. McCarroll passed away in 2010, we are proud that his legacy lives on.

Grier Funeral Service, Inc. is independently owned and operated, and is not affiliated with any other funeral providers.
