Rev.James Bradford Humphrey,III

CEO, Funeral Director, Embalmer

Rev. James Bradford Humphrey, III, “Brad”, serves as the Chief Executive Officer as well as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.

Prior to joining Grier Funeral Service, Rev. Humphrey worked as a sales representative at Dial Corporation.

Rev. Humphrey has served as President of the Western District Funeral Directors and Morticians Association and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Funeral Directors and Morticians Association of North Carolina (FDMANC). He also serves as Chaplain of the FDMANC.

Rev. Humphrey is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina A&T State University, a Masters of Divinity degree from Shaw University, and is also a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service.

Outside of Grier, Rev. Humphrey is the pastor of St. Paul Presbyterian Church and enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, and five grandsons.

Joseph H. Jones, Jr.

Funeral Director and Embalmer

Joseph H. Jones, Jr. has been a dedicated member of the Grier Funeral Service family since 2007, serving with distinction as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. With more than four decades of experience in funeral service, Mr. Jones has compassionately served families throughout Charlotte and the surrounding communities since 1981.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Jones received his early education at the historic Our Lady of Consolation Catholic School and graduated from Independence High School in 1977. He furthered his calling to funeral service by earning his degree from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia, in the fall of 1981.

Deeply rooted in faith and community service, Mr. Jones is a former member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Charlotte, where he faithfully served in the Deacons Ministry, Music Ministry, and as conductor of the Male Chorus. He is a proud member of Zechariah Alexander Lodge #833 PHA and currently holds membership at Mt. Zion Restoration Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he continues his service through the Deacons Ministry and Music Ministry.

Outside of his professional and church commitments, Mr. Jones enjoys sharing his love of music—particularly jazz and R&B—often singing alongside his son. Above all, he values time spent with his family, which remains central to his life and service.

Mr. Jones’ lifelong commitment to dignity, compassion, and excellence reflects the enduring mission of Grier Funeral Service, proudly serving families with care and integrity since 1930.

Basil O. Bratton

Funeral Director and Embalmer

Basil Bratton has been with Grier Funeral Service since 2015 and serves as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. Basil began his career with Grier Funeral Service as a part-time Funeral Attendant.

Prior to joining Grier Funeral Service, Basil began working for a funeral home in Roanoke, Virginia, working his way up from washing cars and cutting grass to becoming a funeral attendant. Basil has also worked in grocery retail and served in the U.S. Army, retiring after a distinguished career.

Basil is a member of the Western District of the Funeral Directors and Morticians Association of North Carolina.

Basil was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and is a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, where he earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish. He continued his studies at Fayetteville Technical Community College and earned an A.A.S. in Funeral Service Education.

Outside of work, Basil enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and watching sporting events.

Tracey Cartwright

Funeral Director and Embalmer

Tracey M. Cartwright is a native New Yorker who joined Grier Funeral Service in February 2023, as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.

Prior to relocating to the Charlotte area, she practiced funeral service as a licensed funeral director for over 20 years and maintains her license in both states.

Tracey holds her A.A.S degree in mortuary science from Nassau Community College as well as a Master of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary. She is a licensed minister as well as a chaplain.

Once joining Grier Funeral Service, she joined the Western District of Funeral Directors & Morticians Association of North Carolina along with the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. She is a member of Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity.

Tracey is the mother of one daughter. They enjoy spending time traveling, dining, going to theaters, and shopping.

Rosa M. Scruggs

Business Administrator

Rosa M. Scruggs has been a part of Grier Funeral Service since 2018 and serves as the Business Administrator. Rosa also previously served as an external accountant working for Grier Funeral Service for over five years.

Prior to joining Grier Funeral Service, Rosa worked as a Contract Accountant/Bookkeeper for various small businesses in the Charlotte area, including attorneys, a med spa, and a CPA firm, as well as construction, retail, and tax preparation businesses. Rosa also owned and managed the day to day operations of a payroll service business, growing it by more than 200% before selling that business to Paychex.

Rosa has experience with developing policies and procedures, staff training, and assisting with sales and marketing in the payroll/human resources industry.

A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Rosa has resided in Charlotte, North Carolina for over 30 years. She holds an Associate of Applied Science degree from Central Piedmont Community College, earned QuickBooks Pro Certification, and has previously been a Registered Tax Preparer with the Internal Revenue Service.

Rosa is a member of Nations Ford Community Church. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending sporting events, exercising, and trying new adventures like golf and kickboxing.

Tjuana "Ms. Tee" Smith

Credit Manager

Ms. Tee has been a part of Grier Funeral Service since 2025 and serves as the Credit Manager. She brings over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, along with a strong background in business operations management and administration.

Prior to joining Grier Funeral Service, Ms. Tee worked as an Independent Life Insurance Agent, Business Operations Manager in the transportation industry, and Senior Corporate Insurance Administrator in the banking industry. She is a licensed insurance agent, a commissioned Notary Public and a creative who enjoys graphic design and marketing.

A graduate of Hunter Huss High School, she went on to study Business Administration and Marketing at Johnson C. Smith University and Strayer University.

Known as “Coach Tee,” she serves as Divorce Recovery Director at Mt. Zion Restoration Church in Gastonia, NC. She is a licensed and ordained minister with a passion for serving women and helping others heal! Serving other's bring her joy.

In her free time, she enjoys thrift shopping, decorating, sports, music, fashion.

Amongst her life's treasures are spending time with her children, family, friends, and line sisters.

Raymond W. Alexander

Chairman

Raymond Alexander has been on the Board of Directors of Grier Funeral Service since 1991 and currently serves as Chairman.

Over his lifetime, Raymond has been involved with Grier Funeral Service in a number of ways. In his childhood, he worked at the funeral home with his father, Funeral Director James W. Alexander, and his great-uncle, Leroy D. Grier, who was one of the company’s founders.

In addition to serving on the board, Raymond’s work experience includes working as a loan officer for North Carolina National Bank, now Bank of America, and as a probation officer with the North Carolina State Probation Office. After thirty-six years of service, he retired from Duke Energy McGuire Nuclear Station where he worked in Radiation Protection.

Raymond is a native Charlottean who grew up in the Grier Heights community. He is a graduate of Second Ward High School and earned an athletic scholarship to Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Purdue and also attended Florida State University for graduate studies.

Raymond, a proud husband, father, and grandfather, enjoys repairing and tinkering with old houses and cars. He also enjoys gardening, watching science fiction movies, and listening to a variety of music. Raymond is a lifelong member of Grier Heights Presbyterian Church where he is a member of the Men’s Council, sings in the church choir, and has served as a Deacon, Trustee, and is presently serving as Elder. He is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Maya H. Capers

Member

Maya Capers has been a part of the Grier Funeral Service Board of Directors since 2018.

In addition to serving on the board of Grier Funeral Service, Maya has had a variety of positions in the marketing field, including several roles in the financial services industry.

Maya was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and has many fond memories of the late John A. McCarroll, her great-uncle and former President of Grier Funeral Service. She is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in African-American Studies. She continued her education in Ann Arbor, MI at The University of Michigan, earning an MBA with a concentration in Marketing.

Maya is a member of Steele Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, and outside of work, she enjoys traveling the world and spending time with family and friends.

Camilla P. Clark

Secretary

Camilla Polk Clark has been a member of the Grier Funeral Service Board of Directors since 2002.

Camilla retired from Grier Funeral Service in June 2018 after 17 years of service as the Business Administrator.

Prior to working with Grier Funeral Service, Camilla worked at Honeywell and retired after 24 years of service. She also worked in the banking industry in Charlotte for years.

Raised in the Grier Heights community of Charlotte, North Carolina, Camilla is a relative of the late Arthur S. Grier, one of the founders of Grier Funeral Service. Camilla attended North Carolina A&T State University and Central Piedmont Community College.

Camilla is a member of Grier Heights Presbyterian Church where she is an ordained Deacon and has served in many capacities. She also had the opportunity to travel to Israel with members of the congregation.

Camilla enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. She is a proud mother of three children and grandmother of five grandchildren she loves and adores.

Christopher T. McCarroll

Member

Christopher McCarroll has been a part of the Grier Funeral Service Board of Directors since 2010.

In addition to serving on the board of Grier Funeral Service, Christopher previously worked as a freight and operations manager and is currently a P/D driver for FedEx Freight.

Christopher is a native of Charlotte and the proud grandson of the late John A. McCarroll, former President of Grier Funeral Service. He is a graduate of West Charlotte High School, and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina A&T State University.

Christopher is affiliated with Unique Lodge #85, Charlotte Consistory #35, and Rameses Temple #51 of Charlotte. He is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Brock H. Clark

Member

Brock Clark has been a member of the Grier Funeral Service Board of Directors since 2022.

In addition to serving on the board of Grier Funeral Service, Brock Clark also supports the economic development of Grier Heights neighborhood by serving on the Grier Heights Foundation Board. Brock has worked in commercial and private equity finance for more than 20 years with experience in both national and regional financial institutions. He is currently co-owner and Director of Finance of Informatic Concepts, an Information Technology Staffing Firm.

Brock is a native Charlottean and is a relative of the late Arthur S. Grier, one of the founders of Grier Funeral Service. Brock graduated from Olympic High School and North Carolina Central University.

In his spare time, Brock enjoys traveling, reading, and coaching his son’s sports teams. He and his wife, Tracie, share three children.
